Air Astana and Boeing have officially announced today the Kazakh flag carrier has finalized an order for up to 15 787-9 widebody aircraft.

The order, previously unveiled as a commitment in November 2025, represents Air Astana’s largest single airplane purchase. The contract includes five firm orders, five options, and five purchase rights.

Deliveries of the jets are expected between 2032 and 2035.

With three more 787-9 airplanes to be delivered via lessors starting this year, Air Astana’s 787 fleet will grow up to 18 787-9 jets to fuel its long-haul capabilities.

Earlier this month, an extraordinary general meeting of Air Astana shareholders approved a transaction with European manufacturer Airbus for the acquisition of five A320neo and 20 A321neo aircraft, with deliveries scheduled for 2031-2034, along with purchase rights for an additional 25 aircraft of the A320neo family.

A memorandum of understanding for these narrowbody aircraft was signed in November of last year.

These contracts are aimed at radically modernizing and expanding the Air Astana group’s fleet, while also strengthening the airline’s presence in the transit passenger market.
