Aktau airport receives EU approval for cargo operations
The Kazakh airport earned the status of a Regulated Agent Third Country
Aktau International Airport in western Kazakhstan has successfully passed the European Union’s aviation security validation procedure, earning the status of a Regulated Agent Third Country (RA3). The new status was confirmed by airport CEO Meruert Zholdybaeva in late-February.
The approval is valid until January 16, 2029, and allows the airport to participate in logistics chains for delivering air cargo to the EU without additional security screenings. Aktau has become the sixth air gateway in Kazakhstan to achieve RA3 status, joining the airports of Almaty, Astana, Karaganda, Turkestan, and Shymkent.
Aktau Airport is currently under the management of the Turkish YDA Holding. It plans to radically increase annual cargo volume from the current 3,000 tons to 100,000 tons by 2030, the governor of Kazakhstan’ Mangystau Region Nurdaulet Kilybay said in December 2025.
