Oman Air enters Central Asia with flights to Uzbekistan
The new route is expected to strengthen bilateral business and cultural ties between the two countries
Oman Air is to enter Central Asian market with the launch of direct flights between Muscat (MCT) and Tashkent (TAS) commencing 1 June 2026. The new 4-hour service will operate twice weekly on Boeing 737MAX, offering access between the two capitals and establishing direct connectivity between Oman and Uzbekistan.
The new route is expected to support inbound tourism to Oman while strengthening bilateral business and cultural ties between the two countries, the sultanate’s flag carrier said in a statement.
“Central Asia represents a region of increasing relevance for both inbound and outbound travel, and the new service is designed to support Oman’s broader tourism ambitions by attracting visitors from Uzbekistan and the wider region,” Con Korfiatis, Chief Executive Officer of Oman Air, said.
Following an expanded bilateral air service agreement signed in mid-2025, aviation authorities in Oman and Uzbekistan have significantly increased capacity limits, allowing designated carriers to operate up to 50 weekly frequencies.
The discussions also paved the way for Oman Air, the Sultanate’s full-service national carrier, to finalize its long-anticipated Muscat–Tashkent route— a service under evaluation since 2023.
Oman Air currently manages a fleet of over 50 aircraft, providing premium connectivity from the southeast Arabian Peninsula.
Meanwhile, Omani low-cost carrier SalamAir has been running seasonal flights to the region since 2023, connecting Muscat with Almaty, Kazakhstan and Baku, Azerbaijan. The airline is led by Adrian Hamilton-Manns, formerly the president of Kazakh budget carrier FlyArystan.
