Tajik airports see 12% passenger decline in 2025
The downturn linked to changes in the international network and fluctuations in demand from labor migrants
Figures released by the Civil Aviation Agency of Tajikistan indicate a softening in the country’s air transport market for 2025.
The Central Asian nation’s international airports collectively handled 2.963 million passengers during the year, representing an 11.8% decrease compared to 2024 volumes.
This decline in passenger traffic occurred despite a near-static level of flight operations. The total number of flights executed across Tajik airports was 11,567, a marginal reduction of just 1.4% year-on-year.
Dushanbe International Airport (DYU), the republic’s primary gateway, recorded a 7.6% drop in passenger traffic, serving 2.160 million travelers.
The airport’s cargo terminal also saw an 8% contraction in processed volume, handling 2,394 tonnes of freight and mail. Of this total, imports accounted for 2,048 tonnes, while exports made up 346 tonnes.
Official commentary links the downturn to market adjustments. The aviation authority cited “changes in the international route network and fluctuations in demand from labor migrants” as primary factors behind the negative trend.
In a contrasting bright spot, the national carrier, Somon Air, reported positive growth. The airline successfully increased its passenger carriage by 8.6%, transporting 1.09 million passengers in 2025.
