Azerbaijan’s Silk Way West takes delivery of fourth new Boeing 777F
Cargo carrier current fleet consists of 12 widebody Boeings
Azerbaijani air freights specialist Silk Way West Airlines has announced the delivery of its fourth Boeing 777F freighter. According to flight tracking data, the brand new aircraft arrived in Baku from the Boeing factory in Seattle on January 28 and has been assigned registration VP-BAU.
Silk Way West received its first two Boeing 777F twin-engine jets in 2023 and the third aircraft – in 2025. According to the airline, two more aircraft of this type are scheduled to arrive in 2027, completing the first stage of its fleet renewal. This phase also included the retirement of two aging Boeing 747-400 four-engine freighters. Silk Way West’s current fleet consists of 12 aircraft, including the Boeing 777Fs, 747-400s, and 747-8Fs.
The second stage of fleet modernization is planned for 2028–2030, during which the carrier expects to receive next-generation freighters: four Airbus A350F and four Boeing 777-8F. The total number of aircraft in operation is projected to reach 20 units.
The airline is part of the Silk Way Group, which also operates Il-76 transport aircraft. Based at Baku Airport, the carrier reports transporting over 500,000 tons of cargo annually.
