Kyrgyzstan’s Asman Airlines mulls potential acquisition of Russian aircraft
This includes Il-114-300, SJ-100 and MC-21-310
Kyrgyz state-owned carrier Asman Airlines is considering the acquisition of new regional and narrowbody aircraft produced in Russia. The announcement followed talks between Manasbek Samidinov, Chairman of the Board of the parent holding company Airports of Kyrgyzstan, and Russia’s United Aircraft Corporation (UAC) during his working visit to Moscow in late January.
“It is of fundamental importance for us to strengthen the [Asman Airlines] fleet with modern and reliable aircraft,” he said.
While Samidinov did not specify the exact aircraft types discussed, UAC is currently conducting certification trials for import-substituted versions of the Il-114-300 turboprop and Superjet 100 regional jet, as well as the MC-21-310 narrowbody aircraft.
The Kyrgyz carrier currently operates three 80-seat De Havilland Dash 8-400 turboprops on domestic routes and seasonal flights to neighboring countries. A fourth aircraft of this type is expected to be delivered later this year.
Asman Airlines also aims to launch flights to Europe once Kyrgyzstan’s civil aviation is removed from the European Union’s “black list.” To support this expansion, the airline plans to acquire two Airbus A321 narrowbody jets.
Furthermore, the Chinese aerospace corporation Comac is marketing its products — the C909 regional jet and C919 medium-haul airliners — to the Central Asian republic.
