Uzbekistan launches national digital platform in a push to digitalize tourism
Central Asian nation eyes 20 million annual visitors after recording $4.8 billion in tourism service exports in 2025
Uzbekistan is set to launch a National Tourism Platform designed to unify public and private sector information systems. The initiative was announced during a recent meeting on tourism and cultural development chaired by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in mid-January.
According to the presidential press service, the move is a cornerstone of the government’s broader effort to modernize the sector. President Mirziyoyev instructed officials to implement proactive digital services catering to both international visitors and local entrepreneurs, expand cashless payment infrastructure, and utilize the platform for comprehensive tourism flow analysis. Officials project that moving services online will significantly reduce the shadow economy within the sector and lead to a substantial increase in annual tax revenues from tourism.
The push for digital transformation comes on the heels of a record-breaking year for Uzbek tourism. In 2025, the country welcomed more than 11 million international visitors. This marks a roughly 10% increase year-on-year and represents a two-fold surge compared to 2022 figures.
This influx of travelers propelled the export of tourism services to $4.8 billion last year. The growth is partly attributed to an increasingly open visa policy; the number of countries whose citizens can enter Uzbekistan visa-free has now expanded to 94.
Looking ahead, the government has set an ambitious target to almost double tourist arrivals to 20 million by 2030. To achieve this, the recent high-level meeting outlined a multi-pronged strategy focused on global outreach. Key tasks include strengthening Uzbekistan’s visibility on leading international travel platforms, developing engaging digital content, and partnering with major international media outlets and social media influencers.
Officials identified the United States, the Gulf States, India, China, and Scandinavia as priority markets for targeted promotional campaigns to showcase Uzbekistan’s tourism potential.
