Kazakhstan and Airbus discussed accelerating A320neos deliveries and expanding cooperation
A joint aviation training center was among the areas of cooperation discussed
Talgat Lastayev, Kazakhstan’s Vice Minister of Transport and Airbus Vice President Charbel Yuzkatli discussed the possibility of accelerating the delivery of aircraft included in the memorandum recently signed by Air Astana, Kazakhstan’s largest airline group.
This and other issues were discussed in Paris during meetings of the Kazakh-French Business Council and the 16th Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation, the Central Asian republic’s Ministry of Transport reported.
Air Astana signed a memorandum of understanding for the delivery of up to 50 Airbus A320neo family aircraft on November 21. When officially signed, the order will be the largest in the carrier’s history, comprising 25 firm orders and 25 options. The core of the order is expected to be the extended-range model A321LR.
Aircraft deliveries are planned to begin in 2031.
Also, the Vice Minister raised the issue of establishing a joint aviation training center with Airbus and discussed aircraft leasing issues.
Further cooperation with French partners was also discussed: airport management company TAV Airports (part of the Groupe ADP) on modernizing Kazakhstan’s airport infrastructure, and Alstom on industrial cooperation.
The possibility of resuming the Paris-Astana route and launching air service on the Shymkent-Nice route were also discussed.
